Welcome
I am a Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Providence College. I received my Ph.D from Columbia University in May 2025. My committee comprised David Bakhurst, Matthew Congdon, David Hansen, Megan Laverty (supervisor), and Katja Vogt. I am also presently the Review Editor for the Journal of Philosophy of Education and a lead organizer for the North American Association for Philosophy & Education (NAAPE).
As a former English teacher, a philosopher, and a researcher trained in data science and qualitative methods, I have an interdisciplinary approach to philosophy and research. My dissertation is titled The Shape of Moral Understanding: Practical Reasoning Informed by Perception and Language, and in it I develop a novel account of moral understanding that emphasizes non-propositional moral meaning—its grasp and articulation.
Recently I've given talks on the epistemic risks and limits of using chatbots for inquiry (University of San Diego); Iris Murdoch's critique of Stuart Hampshire's theory of practical reasoning (Queen's University); the explanatory role perception plays in the phenomenology of moral understanding (University of Vienna); tensions between Indigenous sovereignty and liberal civic education (New College, University of Oxford); and the ancient Greek intellectual virtues of sunesis and gnome (Teachers College, Columbia University).
From 2019 to 2024, I was a Lead Researcher for The National Ethics Project, a large grant funded, mixed-methods research project focused on understanding where, how, and why ethics education occurs in American colleges and universities.
In my spare time, I enjoy film photography, rock climbing, cooking, films, literature, and design.
